With an ironic eye, 10-year-old Momi watches nature take its course, while his divorced parents fumble through the mating ritual as they date new partners.
The entire story is told through the letters he writes to his elderly neighbor, Aliza Sahaf. Momi walks Aliza's dog for her while she is in America. He also waters her plants, guards a nest of goslings and helps to birth puppies. When Momi starts growing orchids, he puts them in Aliza's bathtub, and it his prize bloom that gives the book its title. Momi and Aliza become close through their letters and, in between the news of the day, Momi throws in details about his mother's irritable boyfriend and his father's acquisitive fiancee. Momi's deadpan descriptions poke fun at the absurdity of adults and makes for sparkling amusement.
