Description

The Living Memorial is a curriculum developed by the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland. When we refer to the Holocaust, we traditionally refer to the six million souls who perished. But there is another dimension that must be considered-the destruction of Jewish life and culture of pre-war Europe. It is only after extensive research into "what was" that we can more fully grasp the magnitude of the Holocaust, how deeply we suffered then and the loss we still feel today. Our mission is to create an increased awareness of the past and to stimulate a renewed effort in kindling the spark of Torah study. We dedicate these efforts in memory of the one and a half million Jewish children whose spiritual potential was tragically obliterated. Our charge is to prepare curricula, projects, and programs so that today's school children will continue the legacy of Torah studies. This will be "The Living Memorial" to the martyred children of the Holocaust.

Hebrew Academy of Cleveland Founded in 1943 by the Telshe Roshei Yeshiva who had escaped the Holocaust, the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland is a nationally acclaimed day school offering nearly 800 students an intensive Judaic and secular education from pre-school through high school. This multi-faceted Torah institution is staffed by some of the nation's finest educators, committed to inspiring young Jewish minds to the legacy of Torah. Many of its 5,000 alumni have assumed leadership roles in communities around the globe. The Hebrew Academy of Cleveland has truly left its imprint on the broad spectrum of Jewish life during the past half century. A new chapter in the annals of Torah Chinuch has been written with this curriculum.
