Challenge: An Encounter with Lubavitch-Chabad / t is little known that Chasidim were among the earliest groups in modern times to make aliya to the Holy Land. Nearly two centuries ago, not long after the Chabad Chasidic movement began, disciples of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi began to make their way to Jerusalem, Hebron and Tzfat. Since then, despite the hardships experienced by those early and later settlers, Chabad has remained a vibrant presence in Israel, dedicated to strengthening the observance of Torah and mitzvot. Today the "Chabadniks" are a small army which, with infectious enthusiasm, unbounded love for the Holy Land and unconditional love for each and every Jew, are writing one of the great success stories of modern-day Israel. This second volume of Challenge, abounding with photographs and illustrations, documents Chabad's unbroken and expanding chain of association with the Promised Land from those early beginnings until the 1970's.
