Milk and Honey: Israel Explored / Introduction: I spent four weeks in Israel and I had better state right at the beginning in a manly fashion that I am one of the very few persons who are not experts on a) the Middle East in general, b) Palestine and Zionism in particular c) Anglo-Jewish relations and d) the Arab question. I should have needed another week for that. Before I left for, and while I was in Israel quite a few people warned me that I must not write a funny book about the country. "The Jews are too young and touchy as a nation", I was told. "They fought too heroically for words. Wounds are still open," and so forth. WEll, I never intended to write a funny book on anything. I have describe in other books the English and the Americans as I have seen them. If they seemed funny, it was certainly not my fault.
