Modern Medicine And Jewish Ethics / Theorists and practitioners alike in the health care field have begun to turn to the great religious traditions in the search for answers to a dizzying array of new questions in biomedical ethics. However, it soon becomes clear that even a single religious tradition rarely speaks in an unequivocal voice on the contemporary issues at hand. Rather, each tradition speaks with its own cacophony of voices, reflecting a long history of interpretation and competing sources of authority. Furthermore, it is not at all clear how best to make use of the insights of historical religions, whose authoritative texts often predate by centuries and millennia the appearance of the realities under discussion.
