The Jewish Diaspora / The forced exile enacted by the 1492 Alhambra Decree and the 1496 Edict of Expulsion brought about the dispersion of the largest Jewish communit in Europe. As a consequence, a lamentable humanitarian crisis emerged due to the absence of an organised plan in the Iberian Peninsula to evacuate the Jewish and Muslim minorities. As for the Sephardim, a large part of the population managed to escape through various peninsular ports. However, many thousands were decimated by disease and hunger.
