Beyond The Golden Door: A Brief History of The Jews of New York / This exhibition, with its accompanying catalogue, is divided into seven sections, each devoted to a different aspect of the history and life of New York Jewry. It covers a period of over three centuries, from the first arrival of Jews in New Amsterdam in 1654 down to our own days, but the emphasis is on the formative century, from the 1830s to the 1920s which saw the major immigrations and the emergence of the modern Jewish community in the United States in general, and in New York in particular. Text in English and Hebrew.
