The Jews in China / This title is an extensive, mainly photographic record of the subject edited by Professor Pan Guang, an outstanding Chinese scholar in the field. It covers, in successive sections, the centuries-old Jewish community in Kaifeng of which only a few, assimilated descendants are discernible today; the scores to hundreds of Baghdadi Jewish traders who settled in Hong Kong and Shanghai in the mid-19th century; the many thousands of Jewish migrants from the tsarist Russian empire and the Soviet Union who mounted to tens of thousands in the early 20th and the tens of thousands of refugees from the Nazi holocaust who flocked to Shanghai as a sanctuary in 1930s and early 40s.
