「香港記憶」為響應聯合國教科文組織推動「世界記憶」而成立。「世界記憶」旨在鼓勵各地將歷史檔案和圖書館珍貴館藏以數碼形式保存，讓全世界分享這些集體回憶。「香港記憶」包括文獻、圖片、海報、錄音、電影及錄像。

HKM is Hong Kong’s response to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme which calls for the preservation of valuable archive holdings and library collections all over the world through digitization to guard against collective amnesia. The materials include text documents, photographs, posters, sound recordings, motion pictures and videos.
